Two undergraduate students from the Department of Computer Science, Brian Tekmen and Titilope Oluwatosin Adeniyi, have been selected for the 2026 CRA-WP Distributed Research Experiences for Undergraduates (DREU) program, a highly competitive summer research program supported by the National Science Foundation (NSF).
This year, only 63 students were selected from 862 applicants across the program’s various tracks. Both UNCG students were selected for DREU-AI. Brian Tekmen was matched with Dr. Kyla McMullen at the University of Florida, where he completed a 10-week summer research experience in AI. Through the program, he had the opportunity to work closely with an external research group, gain hands-on experience with advanced AI research, and further develop his skills in conducting independent research. Titilope Oluwatosin Adeniyi was matched with Dr. Yingcheng Sun at UNCG, where she completed a summer research project focused on clinical information retrieval. Her work explored methods for improving the retrieval of relevant clinical information for complex medical queries, providing her with deeper experience in machine learning and information retrieval research.
