Professor Kim Receives Grant for Cell Microscopy Imaging Data Analytics Research

This grant, a subaward from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, supports her collaborative research with the medical scientists, neuroscientists, data scientists at UNC School of Medicine, Neuroscience Department, and RENCI. The main goal of this project is to segment and reconstruct cells in light-sheet fluorescence microscopy (LSFM) images of mice with high accuracy and generality using deep learning techniques. The analysis engine will be further publicized to implement a crowd-sourcing cell annotation platform. Three UNCG Computer Science students will directly work with Professor Kim on building the collaborative cell annotation platform. Moreover, it will be introduced to a large number of UNCG students who are interested in participating in the citizen-science for improving healthcare.
