Manda Receives Prestigious NSF CAREER Award

Professor Prashanti Manda has been awarded the prestigious NSF CAREER award entitled “Ontology-powered Named Entity Recognition and Robust Semantic Similarity Metrics.”

The goal of this project is to develop novel natural language processing methods for recognizing ontology concepts from biological literature. Ontologies are computationally amenable forms of data representation that have made large scale biological analyses possible. Advances pioneered by this project will enable knowledge discovery from scientific literature and power computational analyses to answer complex biological questions. Educational impacts of this project will involve the development of new courses on cutting edge natural language processing methods to train the next generation of interdisciplinary computer scientists. The grant will support graduate and undergraduate students at UNCG.

Congratulations!
